About Squalane
Squalene is a lipid produced naturally by skin cells. It is a main component in
sebum. As we age we lose it. With age and loss of squalene, the skin appears
dry of lipids and dehydrated. Squalene is naturally present in olives, rice bran,
and sugarcane.
Squalane is safe for all skin types. It’s lightweight and non-comedogenic
Hydrogenation
Plant squalene is too unstable to be used in skincare products.
Squalene must be hydrogenated into squalane which is a stable form of the
molecule. Hydrogenation is the process of converting squalene from an
unsaturated oil to a saturated oil (squalane).
